PULL APART CHEESY GARLIC BREAD

I love making bread and a bread machine makes this so easy.  I'm a lazy baker but with a bread machine, you literally just dump everything into the pan, push a button, and in an hour or two, you have dough ready to bake.

Of course you can easily make this without a bread machine; it simply requires a bit more hands-on time.

INGREDIENTS

Dough

  • 1⁄4 cup water, 110°F
  • 1⁄2 cup milk, 110°F
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, egg wash

Garlic Butter

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Filling

  • 1⁄2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1⁄4 cup grated parmesan

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit / grease a 5 by 9 loaf pan and set aside
  2. Garlic Butter
  3. In a small bowl, mix the butter, garlic, and parsley until well blended.
  4. Dough
  5. In a large bowl, add the warm water, milk, honey, and yeast and allow to sit for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
  6. Stir in the butter, add the flour and salt, and knead the dough until a smooth ball forms, about 5-10 minutes. If the dough is sticky, add one tablespoon of flour at a time until a smooth ball forms.
  7. Shape dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes or until the dough doubles in size.
  8. Turn the dough out onto a lightly greased countertop and shape it into a 10-inch by 15-inch rectangle. Spread the softened garlic butter over the dough and top with the mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese.
  9. Cut the dough lengthwise into four long strips. Stack each strip onto each other and cut them lengthwise four more times. There will be four stacks of four squares.
  10. Layer the dough cut side up into the loaf pan.
  11. Cover with a damp towel and let rise for 30-40 minutes or until it is nice and puffy.
  12. In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush on top of the loaf.
  13. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until rolls are lightly brown and cooked through.
  14. While hot, turn the loaf out onto the cooling rack, allow it to cool, and enjoy!
