There are a couple of techniques for making caramel sauce. One method involves caramelizing sugar first, then incorporating the remaining ingredients afterward.
However, with this particular recipe, you simply combine all the ingredients in the pan at once, allowing flavors to meld harmoniously from the get-go.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
DIRECTIONS
- Combine brown sugar, butter, and milk in a saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil. Cook until thickened, 1 to 2 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Serve over dessert of choice or you can let it cool completely and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for later use. Just reheat gently before serving.
