If you're anything like me, you hate seeing parts of the harvest go to waste. After pitting a big batch of fresh cherries, I decided to make a simple syrup from the pits.
Cherry pits add a delicate flavor to simple syrup with almost no extra effort. It's a great way to get just a little more from your cherries while creating a unique syrup that's perfect for sweetening drinks or drizzling over your favorite desserts.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup cherry pits
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
DIRECTIONS
- Place cherry pits, water, sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove mixture from heat and stir in vanilla. .
- Strain pits and store syrup in the fridge
Note: This recipe uses whole cherry pits. Avoid crushing, chopping, or chewing cherry pits. The pits are strained out before serving, and only the flavored syrup is used.
