EASY HOMEMADE HOT FUDGE

If you love a big scoop of ice cream topped with warm, gooey hot fudge, this homemade version is definitely worth making. It is rich, chocolatey, and has that thick, fudgy texture that makes a bowl of ice cream feel like a special treat.

The best part is that it comes together pretty quickly with ingredients you probably already have in the pantry and refrigerator. It's delicious over ice cream, but don't stop there—it also makes a great topping for brownies, cakes, cheesecake, or just about any dessert that could use a little extra chocolate.

I especially love serving it warm over vanilla ice cream and letting it slowly melt down the sides.

INGREDIENTS
  • 10 ounces good-quality semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, measured and sifted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons butter, chopped
DIRECTIONS
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl (or double boiler on the stove, stirring constantly) melt the chocolate on half power, in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
  2. Remove from microwave and stir in the  sifted cocoa powder until smooth. The mixture will be thick. Set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, corn syrup, cream, salt and water. Stir constantly and bring to a simmer.
  4. Simmer for 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and butter.
  5. Add the melted chocolate mixture and stir until smooth.
  6. Serve warm, over ice cream.
