I’ve been thinking about hot fudge cupcakes for a while now, but with a busy schedule, I don’t always have time to bake everything completely from scratch. As much as I love homemade baking, sometimes a few shortcuts are exactly what’s needed.
I’ll admit, I once swore I’d never use a chocolate cake mix. But when time was short, I decided to give a Swiss chocolate mix a try—and it turned out to be the perfect base. I dressed it up with hot fudge and chocolate pudding, creating a rich, triple-chocolate cupcake that tastes anything but “shortcut.”
To finish them off, I topped the cupcakes with French vanilla frosting, a drizzle of chocolate sauce, and chopped nuts. A few even got sprinkles, because there’s always someone who prefers a little extra fun on their cupcake.
For the Cake:
1 box of your favorite chocolate cake mix or favorite cake from scratch
Ingredients listed on cake box (or recipe)
1/2 cup Hot Fudge Topping
1 small box of chocolate pudding mix
Make cake according to directions on box; add the hot fudge topping and box of chocolate pudding mix. Mix and bake according to directions on box.
For the Frosting:
1 cup of vegetable shortening
1/2 cup French vanilla creamer
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups of powdered sugar
Mix shortening, creamer, and vanilla with an electric mixer on low speed. Alternately add powdered sugar until desired consistency is reached. You may need to add more powdered sugar or creamer to achieve correct consistency.

- Frost cupcakes when they have cooled to room temperature.
